Order Organic Meat Online with Thrive Market’s New Sustainably Sourced Meat
This post was most recently updated on May 20th, 2018
If you’re looking to order organic meat online there’s a new option that you probably haven’t heard of and will want to know about – Thrive Market. They just came out with organic meat boxes including organic chicken, grass fed meat and sustainable seafood options.
Thrive is like Whole Foods and Costco got married and created an online organic/natural food store baby. Like Costco or Sam’s Club you need a membership but you get a free 30-day trial. Essentially they sell wholesale and make money on the membership more than the products they sell.
I’m excited to try a sample pack of Thrive’s new organic meat boxes. I ordered the Ultimate Sampler: Pork, Beef, Chicken & Seafood Box so I could try a bit of everything.
The boxes come in different size options: from 6.25 lbs (17 servings) up to 8.125 lbs (22 servings). All are samplers where you get to try different combinations or cuts of meat. This will be perfect for grilling season and I can’t wait to try it!
These prices are with the $25 off and free shipping offer that I shared above. After spending almost $100 on one meal I feel like this will be great for entertaining and less than eating out. Plus I feel good knowing the meat is sustainably sourced and/or organic.
Thrive Market Organic Chicken
For the chicken you can buy only chicken or with beef or seafood. It’s fresh, moist, tender and completely free of added hormones and antibiotics. All of Thrive’s poultry comes from Certified Organic, Humane, and Free-Range chickens that are raised by family-owned farms. It comes frozen on dry ice.
The chicken sampler has the following:
- Organic Chicken Tenders 10-12 Pieces
- Organic 8-Piece Cut-Up Chicken 8 Pieces
- 3 Organic Bone-In Chicken Thighs 3 Thighs/Pack
- 2 Organic Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts(2x) 2 Breasts/Pack
Here’s what one reviewer said about Thrive’s chicken:
The chicken is absolutely delicious! I am so glad I ordered this. The variety and quantity are just right and packaged in such a way that it takes up minimal space in the freezer. It was frozen rock solid when it arrived and I appreciate it! I enjoyed every cut I ate but the clincher for me is my pint-sized food critic who devoured his servings and wanted seconds which I was more than happy to provide. If he is enjoying it, it is really good. I just received my second order of this box and I am looking forward to making future orders.
In addition to the chicken Thrive has grass fed beef in hamburger up to premium cut steaks. The premium box has New York Strip, Ribeyes and more. The beef is humanely raised from 100% grass-fed cattle.
I’ve skimmed through the reviews and it makes me even more excited to get our box:
This is far and away the most tender grass-fed beef I have ever tried. Usually, I find grass-fed beef a little too lean and stringy (blame being brought up on over-fattened corn-fed meats) but Thrive Market’s beef is tender, juicy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious! I can’t wait to try the chicken, pork, and seafood – so excited!
Best Place to Buy Seafood Online
Thrive says they’re the best place to buy seafood online. Again, the industry is not sustainable how most of it is fished and most of what you buy in stores is not good quality, good for the environment or the best for you. Alaska Select is the closest but you have to order a lot and wait for a pick up day. It’s only available in some states (but let me tell you – it’s AMAZING).
Thrive works with partners who catch sustainable and traceable seafood. This includes
- Alaskan sockeye salmon
- Wild Sea Scallops
- Responsibly farmed barramundi (or Asian sea bass)
- Shrimp (peeled and deveined) that’s sustainably wild-caught off the shores of Mexico
- Wild caught cod
If you’ve never heard of it (like I haven’t) farmed barramundi is 100% traceable and supports the recovery of wild fish. It’s also healthy – being high in omega-3’s and half the calories of salmon. I’m curious if it’s like regular sea bass and hope it is since that’s one of my all-time favorites.
One reviewer commented on the fast delivery AND the taste of Thrive Market’s seafood:
The package arrived only three days after I ordered it. I was impressed with the clean packaging with dry ice. It had slipped out of it’s covering and I knew better than to handle the ice with bare hands. The fish was secured in pre-packaging. I seared the red sock-eye salmon in grass-fed butter and fresh dill. It was better than a five-star restaurant! It was so moist and meaty with crispy skin. The scallops are mostly medium sized and the package says 20 – 30. I counted 22. I pan-seared the scallops and they were tender and fresh topped with lemon zest. Haven’t tried the rest yet but I bet I will be just as thrilled with the rest. Portions are generous.
Wholesale Prices and Membership Guarantee
Thrive Market cuts out all the middlemen and works directly with high quality brands and then passes the savings onto their members. These are organic, holistic, natural type brands including keto, gluten free and vegan. Thrive makes money on the membership rather than the products. Members get wholesale pricing which is 25-50% off the best healthy and organic premium products. Membership is $60/year but they have a free 30-day trial, plus other specials. Just be aware that if you want to cancel your membership you either need to call in or email or you will be charged after your free trial.
Just to put it in perspective, I made back my membership in savings within my first two orders (this is average for members). There’s a membership guarantee that states that your membership will pay for itself in savings within the year, guaranteed. If not, you get the difference in Thrive Market credit when you renew.
“I love the company and the products they sell. I live in a rural area with only limited choices of stores in which to shop and I have multiple food allergies. Thrive saves me multiple trips to the closest Whole Foods and Trader Joes, which are located 2 hours a way. I find Thrive very convenient since they ship right to my door.
It does take about a week to receive my order but it would take that long for me to find the time to travel 4 hours round trip to get what I need. I never have a problem ordering over $49 so the shipping is free.
The prices are cheaper than Whole Foods so if you buy a lot of your food there, you’ll likely save money. They also have frequent promotions that include 20-30% off specific brands, which I have used and save money on items we use everyday, like Lara Bars. The Thrive Brand is very good too and they offer cash back on each item you buy. For me the cost of membership has been well worth it. My advice is look on their website and if you use a lot of the items they carry, you’ll probably save money over the course of a year, plus gas and time at the store. If you don’t use many of the items you find on the website, don’t bother with the trial membership because it’ll likely be a hassle for you and it won’t save you money.”
All of Thrive’s meat adheres to the high standards they hold for all of their products. They’re free of added hormones, antibiotics, dyes, and fillers. In addition, the company is committed to environmental excellence. Their facilities are run by 100% renewable energy warehouse that ranks as a Certified B-Corporation for environmental excellence. They are working toward zero waste to practicing carbon-neutral shipping with an emphasis on packaging and all aspects of producing their meat. They offer foam-free thermal protective packaging made of biodegradable, cotton-enhanced insulation, made with super-absorbent fibers from recycled denim.
I really like this because when I’ve ordered meat from services like this in the past or food boxes that come with SO MUCH WASTE. I hate throwing away so much packaging.
