Nectar Mattress Review
Thinking about buying a Nectar but want to read reviews from someone who actually has one?
First, an intro. Nectar Mattress is a new bed in a box mattress company which means it comes in a box or rolled up and is shipped directly from the manufacturer to your doorstep. You can set it up yourself or use their unique white glove service which includes them setting it up and taking away your old mattress. Their incredibly long risk free trial and forever warranty are just one of the features that makes Nectar unique and made me want to review it. I was given a mattress to test and let you know what I think.
Nectar is quite new on the market and you know how we love being one of the first to review a new sleep product. We got a full size.
Nectar: the Only Mattress with a 365 Day Risk Free Trial, Forever Warranty, Cover Replacement and White Glove Delivery
Why did I want to review Nectar mattress? Because I was intrigued by the 1 year risk free trial. Nectar has the longest free trial and warranty I’ve ever seen from any mattress ever – with a 365 day free trial period. That is a full year of sleep that you can try out in your home to see if this mattress is for you. Plus, they have the standard free shipping and hassle free returns. Yes, you get an entire year to decide what you think – and judging from the reviews – you will love it. What crazy company would even take a risk that you wouldn’t love it? They must really stand behind their mattresses!
In addition, Nectar has a FOREVER warranty for the lifetime of the mattress for the original owner. When you unbox your Nectar you’ll see the warranty card that explains everything. The warranty also includes replacing the mattress cover which is something else I’ve never seen before (again, they pay shipping, not you).
For an additional fee, Nectar will set up your new mattress and haul away your old one. This is called their white glove service. Again, something I haven’t seen with other mattress brands. I don’t know about you but I don’t know what to do with my old mattress – thrift stores won’t take them so pretty much it means you have to get the old one to the local dump. It’s got to be able to fit in your car too.
Nectar is an inch taller than brands like it – it’s 11″ high instead of the standard 10″ to give you some extra loft.
The risk free trial, warranty and cover replacement together mean you won’t get stuck with a crappy mattress or one that you simply don’t like. I couldn’t resist, I was so curious, so I asked them to send us one to test out – for a year! To me this combination of protection is unheard of in the mattress industry and takes a lot of the uncertainty out of buying a Nectar mattress.
Remember if you buy a mattress at a regular mattress store, you open it, most of the time you’re stuck with it. They don’t let you take it home and sleep on it for months and then return it if it’s not a good fit for you.
What’s Inside a Nectar Mattress?
Here’s how the Nectar Mattress is an 11-inch mattress which I like because these types of mattresses are usually only 10 inches. I like the look of some extra height on the bed frame. It’s made to go on a bed base or platform but you can also use traditional box springs. It doesn’t include the foundation layer, just the main mattress.
Nectar is made of 4 layers:
- 1″ Top Comfort Layer – The cover is made of Tencel fiber which is soft and very breathable. It sleeps cooler than cotton and helps wick away moisture. I love Tencel fabric for its environmental friendliness and durability. BED BUG resistant.
- 1″ Support Layer – A quilted 4lb. cooling gel foam layer which is something unique to the Nectar mattress. It give the mattress a unique feel and provides great pressure relief. This is to offset the traditional warmer feel of a memory foam mattress.
- 3″ Transition Layer – The fourth layer is what Nectar calls Hi Core Memory Foam. This is a dense foam that also is great for pressure relief.
- 6″ Foundation Layer – This is a standard base layer that provides additional support.
Nectar has three inches of memory foam which gives that gives Nectar its classic memory foam feel but without the traditional drawbacks of memory foam.
The Nectar mattress cover is made so it can be unzipped and is removeable. As I mentioned, they will replace it free if you have any problems. However, you cannot wash the cover. You can spot clean it. That’s why you should ALWAYS get a mattress protector. Put it on before you sleep on it. A mattress protector can be 100% waterproof and prevent dust, food, sweat and more from getting into your mattress causing smell or breakdown of the foam layers. They can also be easily washed and is machine washable. A mattress protector will extend the life of your mattress and make it more sanitary too.
There was a slight smell when we opened the mattress and sniffed it, but there were no major off gassing or strong smell. The other person in the room when we opened it couldn’t smell any odor at all. What I noticed did take some time to go away. It’s not a bad smell, many new products have them. Mattresses are required by law to have fire retardant and other treatments. However, much cheaper mattresses have strong smells that are harmful. Don’t put your new mattress into a room with the door and windows closed. Instead, let it air out for a few days.
Nectar Is A Memory Foam Mattress
To me, you’re either a memory foam person or you’re not. I’m not. I like the bounce of latex. That said, I like the Nectar more than any other memory foam mattress I’ve tried so far because it’s more on the firm side. The good news is if you’re not a fan, everyone I read a review from who said they ended up returning the mattress said it was hassle-free and quick.
I’ve learned with mattresses that you need to sleep on them for some time before you decide what you think. You are used to sleeping on your old mattress, even if it’s terrible. For better or worse you’ve slept on it probably for many years now. You will have an adjustment period as you get used to something new. Not always easy but I’m saying, don’t rush to conclusions.
Nectar is ideal for people who need or want the feel of a memory foam mattress without the heat, a bit firmer support than traditional memory foam mattresses and don’t want to pay the price for a premium mattress.
Nectar Mattress Price
The full size I have is $700 which is a great price, the queen is just an additional $95. And there are discounts! Right now on their website there is a special price: $125 off PLUS 2 free Nectar pillows. I’m not sure how long the offer is running, so don’t put off ordering if you want the pillows. I don’t see any other way to get the pillows right now. Here are the rest of the prices.
Nectar Mattress Compared to Tempurpedic
Here’s another review from a perspective of someone who wanted the quality of a Tempurpedic without the price tag and heat of a Tempurpedic. Check out this chart on Nectar’s website to see how Nectar compares to other popular online and store brands such as Tempurpedic.
“Sleeping Soundly in Utah” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Some people hate memory foam mattresses, other love it. If you absolutely hate memory foam, there is very little chance you’ll like this mattress. It’s not quite memory foam, but it’s very similar. My main point of comparison is a $2,500 (over 3x the cost) Tempurpedic mattress I owned. I was happy with that mattress, but it was time for something new. Researching mattresses I came across Nectar, contacted their customer support (incredibly responsive by the way) and decided that given their return policy. I am so glad I did. I had 2 minor gripes with the tempurpedic: 1. It gets very hot between you and the mattress 2. You kind of sink in – no bounce, kind of hard to move about. I loved the comfort, support, etc. Well, except the price tag, everything is well made. Pros: * Does not get hot! You don’t sleep hot like with a tempurpedic. * Feels great. Most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept in. They did a great job with it. * You don’t sink in quite as much, it pushes back a little. “localized bounce” is their marketing term, but basically, you don’t totally sink in. Cons: * None so far. So far I love this mattress. I hope it lasts, but I got nothing bad to say about it. It is very comfortable, their support is amazing, return policy great. Honestly, seems like a great company and they are producing a quality product are a good price. Highly recommended if you are considering any memory foam mattress.
Who the Nectar Mattress is Ideal For
If you are good want a memory foam mattress that has a bit more firmness without more cooling features, then surely go with the Nectar. It has a great price, sleeps cooler, and has the best warranty and longest trial.
This mattress is can accommodate just about any sleeping position. It is firm enough for stomach and back sleepers for lower back support but also conforms for side sleepers. I think the mattress is ideal for singles, college students or couples who don’t move a lot in their sleep. It’s for anyone who knows they like memory foam and want a more luxury mattress without a luxury price. Remember, you can transport it easily. It will be super comfortable. If you don’t like it they provide a hassle free return and you don’t have to box it up or pay for shipping in order to take advantage of that.
As far as for couples, I’m more of a fan of Purple because of the low motion transfer and due to the fact that my husband is a bigger guy who used to wake me up a lot when he moved around.
Nectar Mattress Video
My friend and I created a video about Nectar, you can watch it here:
When Does it Ship?
I’ve heard that it’s so popular that Nectar is having a difficult time keeping this bed in stock. So if you want to try it out, don’t wait. You want to give it plenty of time to get to you. Like a lot of these newer mattress companies (and especially one that offers such generous terms) they can get very popular and may not be as fast to keep up with demand. That’s probably the number one complaint that I’ve seen. I wasn’t in a hurry to get mine so it didn’t matter but if you want your faster, order sooner.
Nectar is Certipur Certified
This mattress is Certipur Certified so it is tested to be free of any harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde.
CertiPUR-US® approved foams are:
Made without ozone depleters
Made without PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants
Made without mercury, lead and other heavy metals
Made without formaldehyde
Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)All of which is, of course, topped with and protected by 2″ of Purple™ — so it’ll last even longer than your average high-density foam.
For the money, this is one of the best memory foam mattresses you can find. I love the Tencel and cooling technology they added to make it more breathable, wick moisture away and dissipate heat. The Nectar Mattress is extremely comfortable and affordable. If you like memory foam and yet don’t want your mattress to be overly soft or hot, Nectar is a great choice.
